*** Wednesday 8th May Meeting re Glenamuck Road Plan ***

(30 Apr 2019)

Please see below re the proposed new road.

Dear Member,

As you may be aware, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council are seeking planning permission to build a road that will require the compulsory purchase of a substantial part of the club car park. The club is obviously extremely concerned about the impact of this proposal, I wanted to update you on progress regarding the planning application.

The Council have submitted their planning application for the “Glenamuck Distributor Road” directly to An Bord Pleanala, seeking permission for the development of the road which will cut through the car park. In addition, they have served the paperwork regarding the compulsory purchase order (CPO) necessary to acquire the club lands to develop the road. Should the Council be granted permission for the road, the CPO will be automatically confirmed as well.

If you want more details on the application, including maps etc. the information is available at the following web address:

There is also more material available on the Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown website, including locations where the plans can be viewed.

Observations (objections) need to be submitted to the Board by 16 May. A sub-committee of the club executive have been meeting regularly to plan and action our response to the application and have engaged legal and other professional advice to support us in preparing a submission to the Board.

While the club will be making a submission, club members may wish to submit their own observation as well. There is a fee of €50 to accompany each submission.

We are holding an open meeting of members to update you on the planning application to get your feedback, and at which we will have maps and drawings available to review. That meeting will take place on Wednesday 8 May at 8.00pm in Kirwan Park. We also intend to have the precise location of the road marked out in the car park for members to better understand the location and impact.

The primary worry is the impact the road will have on our car park. We all know how congested it can become in Kirwan Park despite recent efforts to extend and improve parking. Without adequate and suitable parking, we will be severely restricted in our ability to operate as a rugby club and we can not afford to give up any land we are currently using as pitches.

I look forward to seeing you at our meeting.
