2017 Annual Awards Dinner & the winners are......

(16 Sep 2017)

The SOLD OUT signs were on display last Saturday night at The Stratton Hall in Kirwan Park, as a full house turned up for the 2017 De La Salle Palmerston Annual Awards Dinner.

Special guests for the night were The Spencer Cup, and Metro League Division 7 Winners Pennant, which were won last season and are enjoying their stay in Kilternan for the next few months.

Also in attendance for their first time were the recently launched and progressive DLSP Touch team, who included a number of Salmo Stalwarts, who are still proud to be donning the black jersey and wine and gold socks, including former 1st Xv captain Frank Ennis, Martin Huggard, Peter Ashbrowne, Brian Murray and Paul Keating.

The Annual Awards night is one of the most important date on the club calendar and understandably hugely popular with the players. In advance of the night they are all asked to reflect on the season and vote for their teams player’s player, with the Management of each team selecting the most improved player.

One of the most prestigious awards a player can win is the Ron ‘The boot’ Buckley award, which is in memory of club Legend the late Ron Buckley. This award is presented to a player in recognition of giving back something off the pitch to the club.

This year the 6th recipient was a worthy one in Barry Murphy. Barry had another busy season on and off the pitch, amongst many things: playing for the thirds (till injured), then Managing them while injured, coaching the u 17's and taking part in the clubs main fund raising project, The Oskars.

Five years ago the De La Salle Palmerston Young Player of the Year Award was introduced, with this years recipient Kevin O'Neill, being a deserving one (Previous winners have included current Club Captain Ronan Costelloe and Scott finlay).

Club President Peter Tunney President spoke on the night and wished the all our teams the very best for the 2017-18 season, with a special thanks to Sean O'Riordain and his work group, for all his industrious work in organizing another very successful Awards night.
