Ladies Lunch 2024

What an absolutely wonderful day we had on Saturday 6th April, enjoying our annual Ladies’ Lunch, this year in support of Our Lady's Hospice. We were delighted to extend a warm Salmo welcome to Geraldine Tracey and Claire Parkes from Our Lady’s Hospice (pictured below) along with our other very special guests: the lovely Emily McKeown, Leinster Women's Development Officer and local councillor Lettie McCarthy, a long-standing supporter of everything we do here in the club.

Our Lady's Hospice was nominated by someone whose presence is a constant here in the club, the legend Maeve Gebruers, to whom our president Des Cunningham is very lucky to be married.

Guests were greeted on arrival by some of our U18 Girls players: Leah Nealon, Lizzie Cunningham and Anna Weldon along with Sinead Kearney who steps up at every opportunity to help out. The girls were busy bees all afternoon and evening, helping out and being wonderful ambassadors for the club as always. Thank you so much to the girls! I suspect that next year we may have to enlist some new recruits to assist us with the meet and greet and raffle sales, as there is a strong suspicion that these gorgeous girls will be joining us on the other side of the table to attend the lunch themselves.

Once checked in, the ladies were welcomed with a glass or two of some very decadent Bottega Rose Gold Prosecco, sponsored most generously by the founders of GuGo. This year, guests were invited to remember those loved ones no longer with us by adding their names to our memory tree which, although it sparked a few tears, gave the ladies a chance to share some very special stories about people they have loved and lost.

Having moved downstairs for lunch, there were huge smiles all round as the outrageously generous goody bags were discovered. A huge thanks must go to Graham Anthony Distribution who were beyond generous, and to Lycon Distribution and KeyForHer Collagen (amongst others) for the added extra bonuses to the bags. 

As always, Gill Nealon was a fantastic MC, keeping things moving and introducing our wonderful speakers. Ger Tracey, Interim Director of Nursing at Our Lady’s Hospice and Care Services, gave a wonderful insight to the world that is Our Lady's Hospice, the work they do and the difference fundraising makes.

Tara Prendergast of Biscuit Community, a regular on the DLSP sidelines and a mentor to creative entrepreneurs, gave some gorgeous insights into women in business and how, as a community, women can support each other in fulfilling our dreams and endeavours.

Finally, we had Lorraine Corcoran from Nyrah Beauty who sponsored the prize for best dressed lady and who gave some wonderful practical advice on different product types and information on her start up success and her growing Irish skincare company.

Once lunch and the speeches were over, it was on to the raffle. One lucky person at each table received a bottle of Bottega Prosecco sponsored by GoGu. Zane Lace was the lucky winner of the ‘surprise prize’... a very luscious Lir Chocolates hamper, with the main table prizes being stunning Keratase Gift bags sponsored by L'Oréal.

Lettie McCarthy, Lorraine Corcoran (Nyrah Beauty) and Miriam O’Connor Meade (L’Oréal) were tasked with selecting the best dressed lady, choosing a very excited Deirdre Kelly (pictured below, left) who has attended every Ladies' Lunch to date. She looked absolutely stunning, as can be seen in the photo, and was presented with a wonderful gift hamper from Nyrah Beauty along with a gorgeous bouquet of flowers and a bottle of Tattinger Champagne to celebrate.

With lunch wrapped up, Emma Slowe Entertainment worked her magic upstairs yet again and had everyone dancing for the entire evening. We had our usual ‘upstairs raffle ‘with yet more super prizes, not least of which was the signed Leinster jersey, courtesy of Emily McKeown.

Once again, this was another wonderfully successful day; and, as always, it needs to be said that these events don’t just happen. There is a huge amount of work that goes on behind the scenes well in advance of the day, getting prizes and sponsorship, planning menus, tidying, cleaning and decorating the clubhouse so that it’s transformed from its Sunday morning rugby attire into something far more glamorous. So there's a huge amount of "thank you"s!

To the Ladies' Committee: - Gill Nealon, Sue Treacy, Johanna Davy, Tara Finlay, Lisa McGovern, Caroline Ryan, and Kate Burke; Mariana, Ken and the staff at the Salmo Social who put so much effort into these events and provide such a great welcome; Leah, Lizzie, Anna and Sinead for all their hard work on the day; Paul Finlay for capturing it all so beautifully on camera; Emma Slowe Entertainment for the balloons and tunes (and some sore feet on Sunday morning!)
