Leinster League 2A Champions!

A packed Kirwan Park was witness to another great day in the club's history as the Firsts recorded a six-try, 42-7 victory over Newbridge RFC to wrap up the Leinster League Division 2A title with three games to spare.

A Stephen Meagher hat-trick was supplemented by two from Paul Tolofua with Ian O'Connor adding the final five-pointer of the day. James Nolan was in fine form from the kicking tee and added six conversions to the total.

Sunday's win established an unassailable 19-point lead over nearest rivals Clondalkin and assures the squad of automatic promotion to Division 1B for next season.

Director of Rugby, Norman Byrne: "Securing the league title at home, in front of our friends and families and the wider Salmo family, was exactly how I would have written the script! The fact that we managed to do it on a day where both the seconds and firsts played great open rugby in winning both their matches, made it even more pleasing.

"It’s really important to stress that this success has been a journey over a few years and many people have contributed over that time, who weren’t involved this season but nevertheless played integral roles. Ronan Costelloe and Ian Burke spring to mind in particular.

"Even more importantly, it’s my absolute intention that this is just the next step on that journey. Planning is already well underway to make sure we continue with the progress.

"We have a big couple of months rugby still ahead of us, with both the Seconds and the Metro team still in real contention to win their respective leagues. We will be doing all we can to make that happen.

"On behalf of the entire squad, a huge thanks to everyone in Salmo for their incredible support and messages before, during and after the match last weekend. We genuinely could not do this without you all."

We are hopeful that the team will receive the trophy following our home game against Coolmine on March 5th.
