Senior Men's Leadership Roles Confirmed

Director of Rugby, Norman Byrne, is delighted to advise of the re-appointment of Ian Burke as Club Captain for season 2021/22 and of Ronan Costelloe as Vice Captain.

Norman: “While we hope and intend to have some rugby activity in Salmo as soon as regulations permit, and through the summer months, we have also been planning ahead for what will hopefully be a normal rugby season in 2021/22."

"A key piece of that planning is the appointment of people into rugby roles and today’s announcement about Ian and Ronan is really positive news from a senior rugby and overall club perspective. They are two true Salmo lads and are both fully committed to leading the senior squad into next season’s campaign, while also supporting all the other rugby groups in the club. I’m delighted and very appreciative that they have agreed to take the roles on again.”

Ian Burke

Ian: “I am absolutely thrilled to be re-appointed Club Captain for next season. We had a great start to 2020/21 but unfortunately it was prematurely halted by the pandemic. I know the players can’t wait to get back out representing Salmo and I personally am really excited and honoured to have the chance to lead our great club to promotion next season. I’m also looking forward to supporting all the other rugby groups in the club in any way I can.”

Ronan Costelloe

Ronan: “After a year away from rugby, I had been really enjoying being back playing for Salmo until things ground to a halt. I think it has just made the thoughts of next season even more exciting! I’m looking forward to taking up the Vice-Captaincy again in very exciting times with a lot of young talent coming through; it's great to see the conveyor belt producing such good players. I’m very proud to have been a part of our club since a very young age and still love wearing the Salmo colours.”

Norman expects to make further announcements on rugby roles over the next week or so and has also advised that there will be some exciting news coming soon about the planned rugby activities for the entire club when restrictions are lifted in due course.
