Senior Men's Coaching Panel 2021/2

Following on from our recent announcement of the re-appointments of Ian Burke and Ronan Costelloe as Club Captain and Senior Vice-Captain respectively, for season 2021/22, comes further good news from Director of Rugby, Norman Byrne, about the Senior and Under 20s coaching groups for next season.

Niall Smullen (left) will continue as Senior Head Coach and he will be supported by Assistant Coach, Stephen Duffy (2nd from left) who will also continue in a playing capacity and Head of Athletic Development Conor Wynne-Walsh (2nd from right). Karl Moran (right) will lead the Under 20 coaching group, while also providing a specific breakdown specialist role with the senior squad.

James Nolan, who has been a player-coach in the senior group, has decided to concentrate on playing next season and will step back from a direct coaching role.

Norman: “I’m delighted to announce these coaching appointments for next season. The early timing gives us certainty on the structure for the Senior and Under 20 groups for season 2021/22 and allows us to commence putting specific plans in place now. In Niall, Stephen, Conor and Karl we have a very strong group with complementary skills and a great work ethic. By working closely together the group will ensure continuity of player development and consistency of coaching and playing approach across the two playing groups."

"James did a fine job in what was unfortunately a hugely truncated season and I fully respect his decision to concentrate on playing next season."

"I am also delighted to be able to confirm that the entire senior squad management group has agreed to stay involved next season: Ray Carey, Ciaran Shields, Dave Lillis, Declan O’Neill, Lar Hudson, Pat Costelloe, Barry Murphy and John Feeney. Thanks to each of them for their continued commitment and support."

Further appointments to the Under 20 coaching and management group will be advised in due course.
