On a very proud day for the club, we were delighted that our former player Des Fitzgerald was able to join us to receive one of the plaques specially commissioned by Howden Insurance to honour those players who have worn the famous Lions red jersey and the clubs that nurtured their talent.
Des lined out for the Lions in 1986 when they played the "The Rest" (Australia, France, New Zealand and South Africa) at Cardiff Arms Park, packing down at tight-head prop in a game that was held to mark the centenary of the International Rugby Football Board as it was known then.
Des played for Ireland from 1984 to 1992, winning 34 caps, making his debut in February 1984 against England. He played in the 1987 and 1991 rugby world cups and is the father of Irish international Luke Fitzgerald, pictured below.

Our thanks to Des and Luke for joining us and to everyone who came along for the presentation.
