Dear Members
I hope you have all had the opportunity to enjoy the unusually warm summer with your family and friends this year. I’m sure, though, that like me, you cannot wait for rugby to return – so now we’re all hoping for some rain!
When you think of the off-season, you might imagine the club going quiet, with little or no activity. That certainly hasn’t been the case at Kirwan Park this summer. We have welcomed film crews, installed a new coffee facility, undertaken ongoing electrical upgrades, refurbished the back bar, and, of course, seen the return of pre-season training in earnest.
We’ve barely had time to draw breath!
All of this means that you will be returning to improved facilities, both on and off the pitch, for you to enjoy your rugby at De La Salle Palmerston this season and for many years to come.
With that in mind, I want to extend a personal thank you to all the club volunteers who have worked tirelessly throughout the hot summer to make these improvements happen. Seeing the pride these volunteers take in the club, and their commitment to ensuring that you have the best possible platform for your rugby experience, is something very special.
Thank you all.
I’m really looking forward to seeing action return to Kirwan Park with our Open Day on Sunday, 30th August. Please come along and spread the word to everyone you know, so that they can experience the Salmo spirit for themselves.
Following that, we have a fantastic Academy session on 6th September, kindly sponsored by Evara, featuring Gus McCarthy and Fintan Gunne from the Leinster squad.
Then, on Saturday, 19th September, our senior men's 1st and 2nd XVs return to league action with home fixtures against Mullingar RFC. We will also be hosting a pre-match lunch that day, so please come along, enjoy the hospitality and get behind the teams. Details are available through our usual social media channels.
To round off the month, our Three Saints senior women's team will commence their league campaign against Co. Carlow FC.
Alongside all of this, there will, of course, be training and other fixtures yet to be confirmed.
Please come along, support the teams and get involved whenever you can. The club is at its best when we are all part of it.
Finally, I would like to thank all of our existing and new sponsors. You will notice many new names around the club this year, and we are hugely grateful for the valuable financial support they provide to a community-based sporting organisation like De La Salle Palmerston. Please support them in any way you can in return.
I would also like to extend a warm welcome to Fallow Coffee at Kirwan Park and wish Cian and his team every success.
I look forward to seeing you all back at Kirwan Park and to another great season for the club.
C’mon Salmo!!!
Niall Fitzgerald - President
